I answered an ad on Craigs List as I am currently searching for work, I recieved an email asking me to forward my email, which I did, they responded by asking me to upload it to a specific website, which I did not, it has all my personal information on it, I recieved this email today, which I thought was rather strange considering I did not upload my resume:
We appreciate you emailing us and making the time to forward your resume. In case the job listing was not understandable, the tasks of this position are the following:

- Employees will be screening phone calls and sorting messages whenever applicable.
- Employees will be preparing the business group meetings, and completing errands for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits (you will be allowed a company vehicle throughout business hours).
- When you are completing errands, you will also be allowed use of one of our company debit cards for all business purchases.

You seem more than qualified for our job opening and more so than the additional 19 applicants we received resumes from. I am interested in taking the next stage with you. Though, before I am able to schedule a closing interview, my company will require that you attain a recent (past 20 days) credit score. We have begun doing this because unfortunately we have had a number of bad incidents with former employees taking advantage of having access to our company debit cards.

Both the HR department and I prefer that applicants utilize This Site to attain your score as this website offers the check at no cost for the score (unlike other websites). I also discovered that this websites scores consistently report back the most factual and correct information, and they are one of the most consistent trusted sources on line.

When you submit the needed information, the website will give to you your unobjective score. Then, you are asked to email me the reported credit score, a phone number where you can be contacted, and your availability schedule to plan an interview. I ask you to not email me the whole readout, as it will show confidential subject matter. If you carry a poorer than expected credit score, it will by no means prevent you from attaining a position with us. I had a reasonably poor score when I began working here and I never had an issue. If you dont want to complete a recent credit score, unfortunately the company will require that I move on to the 2nd choice.

For myself, I desire to fulfill this position with a new friendly face and I anxiously await to your rapid response.

Have a nice Friday.
Regards,
Human Resources Assistant

I then responded with: Please give me more information on your Company so I can conduct my own search, I have never had to submit my credit score to any employer, even though I can see why you would ask this, I myself do not see why my credit score would have anything to do with this position or give you any kind of gauge as to my "integrity?
As of today they still have not responded with the information I have asked of them? Strange indeed!

  • yes!!! i've learned long ago that people prey on c.l. be careful!!! what i've learned to do is e-mail the company before sending any of my info to them because they sound really legit and even have websites!! so from a junk e-mail i just send a generic 'inquiring about the position' message; i NEVER FORWWARD A RESUME!! i don't want them having access to any of my info!! and, every single time i'm suspicious about a c.l. post i get the same type of reply you mentioned and i cease communication!! i have no idea if they can access anything from the junk email i send, but thus far it's the safest way i've found. it's a shame you have to be careful ALLLL the time!! never let your guard down!! :/
