Sometime the end of November, I received a post card saying I had been preapproved for a $10,000 grant, all I had to do is go online and enter the preapproved code. The only other info I needed to enter was my email address and mailing address. Since they asked for no other personal info., I thought it just might be for real. I forgot about it, until on Dec. 2 I received a check in the mail for $948.74. The check looked very real and all that was asked was I purchase a Greendot moneypak card and load it with $500, fill out the little form that came attached to the check with the card info and fax it to two different numbers as they were in the process of switching offices. This $500 dollars was her fee, and then I was to receive thru airmail, the other $9,052. I had to do this in 5 days or loose the balance and have to pay back the $948.74. The real problems started when I deposited the check in my bank. After the 3 day hold, the funds were made available to me, so I took out the $500, to send to her, and I spent most of the balance on bills and Christmas. Two days later my bank informed me it was a bogus check and I'd have to pay it back. They made me take out a loan to "clear their books" before the end of the year and now I have to pay interest on top of the bogus check. I don't know if they can really do that but they did. I can't afford this as I work at a retail store and don't even bring home $200 a week. I am single and my kids are all grown, so I have no other sources of income. I hope this woman is caught and prosecuted to full extent of the law and then some. Maybe I was dumb to fall for this scam, but when you're really poor, the money seems the answer to some of your problems, and this woman has taken advantage of so many people just like me for her own gain. God will punish her if man's law doesn't.
