I have had two strange telephone calls today.

The first came in about 1.30-2pm. The first one for which I never bothered to track the number via 1471 was a male voice that answering the call said “The purest of the pure, you ba...” and hung up.

The second call came in a 15.40. A female voice (could be Midlands accent) asked if I was Mr Keeler and gave my correct address. She then started to gable something I did not understand, so I asked her to repeat it. She gave no name but said she was calling from Electrolux and did I want to renew my insurance cover on my washing machine as it was now due.

I was resting in bed and turned to my wife to repeat this query. She answered that we have a Hotpoint washing machine, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

I repeated this to the woman on the line. She said: “No matter, would you like to take out one, two or five years insurance.” I replied one year.

It was at the point that she started to ask for my banking details, at which point I replied: “Oh no. I never give out financial information over the phone, especially anything to do with my bank account.

She ended the call abruptly. I realised it was a scam, especially as I had heard no background noise as in an office.

I did a 1471 and was given the caller’s number as 02036375314. I was also informed that there was a charge for a ring=back on this number.

After this call a few minutes reflection, I phone 101 for the Hampshire Police and was advised to email you on this address. Therefore I am reporting this incident as a suspected scam.
