I received a strange call yesterday from this number. On the other line was a man that claims to work for Cash Advance America. He spoke very quickly and I swore I heard him say, "Deborah (something)". I said, "Deborah?" He responded by repeating his name and his alleged company name with a serious attitude. I figured I could have misheard him. He then stated that I had recently applied for a loan (which I had) and proceeded to tell me that I was approved for $10,000. I explained that I didn't need another loan as I had already been approved for the last but he responded by telling me that I could also get a smaller loan in the amount of $5,000. At this point, it was clear he wasn't listening to me, so I decided to humor him in the hopes of collecting enough info to share with you all here. Sometime during the call, he asked for my name "for verification purposes" he said. I didn't divulge my real name, and instead told him that he should know who I am since he called me saying I am approved for a loan. It was then that I learned that he was in fact calling for a Deborah. After he learned that I wasn't who he thought I was, I assumed that would be the end of it, right? Nope! Using my fictitious name, he continued with his script, asserting that I was still pre-approved for the loan. Major red flags go up here. Certain it was a scam at that point, I decided I would get to the bottom of their alleged "offer". I couldn't help but laugh though when I learned what they were suggesting. I could "receive" $5,000 "interest free" with a payment of $212 every month for 24 months. If you do the math, that comes to $5,088. Sounds too good to be true, right? God forbid you tell them you are skeptical. The man proceeded to get loud with me, especially so when I said I needed to look them up online first. "Fine, look it up. Go ahead, look it up ma'am." I looked it up and to no surprise, I didn't find their company listed anywhere. I refrained from telling him to avoid escalating the conversation further. He then tells me that I have to pay $212 upfront to secure a voucher for insurance on the loan amount and would need to pay that right then and there with him on the phone to proceed with the loan. When I questioned the logic of paying up front to borrow needed money, the call got very heated. I wasn't about to let this guy waste any more of my time so I ended the call. I should add too that my number is listed on the National Do Not Call registry. This is the first solicited call I've received in a while.
