I was a senior at Sheffield when I got the call from some guy named "Cliff Dunbar" and he said he had some information card I supposedly filled out at a job fair. (I never went to any job fair). He offered me a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to intern with a large MNC in China. It sounded bloody good to me and by the time we hung up, I was ready to go work in China after I graduated.

I believed everything I read on their web site and I called the three people they gave me as references and they all said bloody good things about how they got large salaried positions with Intel, Goldman-Sachs, and Kraft Foods so I was super excited to sign up.

So when the second call came I agreed to pay my $300 deposit, but for some reason my credit card would not go through. That must have a been a sign, because the next day, some woman named Haley Gilbert called me by mistake I think. I guess she did not know I spoke with Cliff because she said she got a referral letter from one of the Deans at Sheffield with my number. After I mention I already spoke with Cliff, she said she had an incoming call and told me to finish up with Cliff.

The next day my flatmate showed me something at scam.com about China internship frauds. Well mates, I decided this MNC job in China was too good to be true. So the next time Cliff called I noticed the call was coming from a Pakistan country code! I told Cliff I changed my mind and Cliff said I was cheating myself out of a triple A future. I'm sure I made the right choice. I have since seen so many other complaints. I came to China on my own and did and internship with an environmental NGO and then found a decent job teaching and giving lectures at China Academy of Science. I have no regrets.
