I was called out of the blue by UTH (Urgent Tech Help) whose agent notified me that my computer was under attack and had been compromised. (the truth is, my computer had been running slow, so I was interested). He got me to do a screenshare where he then showed me all these problems that the computer was having, and, somehow knew the id # of my computer.

Far into the call he told me there would be charges of $177 to do the fixes that are needed. He also urgently told me (hence their name - Urgent Tech Help)that this all needed to be fixed TODAY or they would need to bar my computer from the internet, since they were working as an arm of Microsoft.

It all quickly felt fishy and disgusting, though it was very convincing to me (never again!) that they knew all this info about my computer. Fortunately, I thought to look around on the internet about them while I was on the phone with them and found all these reviews that they are a scam. Phew! I was within inches of giving them $.
