I have Avast anti-virus protection on my laptop which was due to run out. I received a reminder to renew for £34.99 which I ignored for the moment, intending to do it later.

Before I could renew, I got another notification from Avast Nexway telling me I could take out the licence for £24.99. I thought this was the same company so I renewed online and subsequently got a receipt on email and a link to open the licence, but this would not download. After trying fruitlessly for over an hour, I clicked on the link for their step-by-step video tutorial. Guess what - the video would not play properly despite several attempts.

There was a "help" overseas telephone number listed for the company but when I dialled it I got a recorded message saying the number was not accessible from my location! Twice I emailed them to say first of all that I needed help, secondly to say that I couldn't download the licence or install the anti-virus programme and that I wished to CANCEL the order and have a refund. All I got both times was an acknowledgement saying they would respond "as soon as possible". That was 10 days ago and I've heard nothing since.

Trying to email again did not work because they used a "no reply" email address, so any further emails I try to send simply bounce back. All I get is an email from them saying I should not email but "use the contact form accessible from the online store used to make the purchase". Since there is no way I can access this, I'm stuck with being unable to contact them at all and I'm desperate to (a) get my money back and (b) remove from my laptop all traces of the useless link they sent me.

As far as I can make out they have offices in the Netherlands, USA, South Korea and various other places, but no contact numbers, no email addresses, nowhere that we can go to actually speak to someone and get things resolved.

They're a complete set of crooks as far as I'm concerned.

Can anyone help please?
