She, (allegedly) replied to an ad on Gumtree for a room I had to rent in Middlesbrough via SMS, but no number. Identified only by Ernela Dervishi and not a number. It is impossible to do that without an expensive piece of software!
She is interested in renting a room here in Middlesbrough on the North East coast of England. However, she says she can only correspond via email ([email protected]) after she sends me a copy of her British passport claiming that she was born & raised, here in the UK. and that she is working for the Canadian Coast Guard.
OK, I smell a rat straight away!!
1. The copy of the passport states that she was born in Hoc E Vogel which happens to be in Serbia. So obviously NOT born in the UK.
2. Why would a girl on a boat, off the coast of Canada want to rent a room in Middlesbrough, UK.
3. When replying to emails it comes up in my contacts that the email address, ([email protected]) belongs to someone called Mack Yinka. After several searches it appears that Mack Yinka is a Romanian.
Now it all figures!!
So, realising that this is some kind of a scam, I play the game to get them scammers to hang themselves.
I get a fake email from paypal that I have been paid 4 months rent, a 2 week deposit, an extra £50 for my transfer fees and another £250 to forward to her moving agent with his bank account details.
Firstly, the fake email couldn't even spell Luxembourg correctly.
Secondly, I contacted the moving agents bank in Princes Street, Swindon, SN38 1NW (tel. no. 08457 302010) which happened to be the Nationwide, Sort code 07-01-16, Account No. 16431773, Name P.A. Tempest and they confirmed to me that this account was currently under investigation. Mmmmm!
So, I dig deeper into the fake paypal email and the name [email protected] keeps cropping up.
BE WARNED!!
I contacted the Passport office with a copy of "Ernela's" passport details which I had traced to an address (115 Manor Road, Leyton, London, E10 7HW) & also Stratford in London E15.
If anyone hasn't realised that this is quite an elaborate scam by now, WAKE UP!!
Needless to say, I parted with no money, I'm not that daft!!, & I have embarked on a mission to trace the scammers. Watch this space for further developments.
Strange how the word Romania cropped up in all of this eh?
