I received a call, supposedly from a grandson, who had been arrested for carrying drugs in NYC. He was crying hysterically, so the voice was not right. He gave the phone to an "Officer Travis Wills" who told me that to effect my grandson's release (he was obviously not guilty) I would need to send $4000 for bail. He gave me the number 212-539-0448 as a call back number. After 30 minutes I received a call from "Officer Kevin Heart" who said he was in the 'Bail Dept'. He told me to send the money by Money Pak, which can be purchased at Safeway, RiteAid or CVS. It all began to sound a bit odd, but I was dealing with another emergency at the same time, so was not giving this my full attention. When I told my husband, he said he had heard about a scam like this. He looked up the phone number I was given and found that it was a scam. I filed a report with the local Sheriff's office and when I was called baacjk by the "officer" I told him that it was a scam and he would not get any money from me. He hung up and hasn't called back.
