I received an email yesterday with "Coles" in the title and purporting to be a quiz where you could win $1000 by selecting Aldi or Coles form the body of their email and correctly answering a number of questions. To be eligible to participate you fisrt had to enter your mobile phone number, which I stupidly did. Then when I scrolled down there was the fine print. By enetering my number I had effectively signed up to an ongoing monthly subscripition of $18.95 to be charged to my mobile account. There was instruction saying to opt out I had to sms "Stop" to a 1900 number which I again stupidly did. Luckily though I received an sms back saying I had insufficient credit to make the "Premium" sms. I had $9.00 credit in my account so the cost sms must have been higher. I immediately rang my provider and they agreed to bar any bar any more incoming premium sms's. I also forwarded a complaint to the scammers email address and received a reply back from "ordanduu"? support to say my number had been removed from their data base. At the end of the day I guess I can say I was lucky
