I received a call at 11:30pm from a female stating she was with Microsoft Technical Support. I asked why she was calling so late and she stated due to malware on my computer. She stated that Microsoft had been receiving numerous error messages from my computer showing that a malicious malware program was on my computer. She stated this is why they were calling so late due to the urgency. I asked for her name and she gave Susan Maxwel. I then asked how I could know she was legit and she stated she could verify my unique computer ID#. She told me to push the window button plus R and then type CMD. She then told me to type ASSOC on the black screen and 3 lines up from the bottom was my CLSID#. She verified the last numbers (turns out this is not a unique # but the same for every computer). After the verification she told me she would help me get the malware off the computer. The next step she gave was to push the window button plus R again and go to www.teamviewer.com. She stated I needed to download the program so that she could have access to my computer because the file was very dangerous and one wrong click could cause me to lose my computer completely. I told her I need a phone number to call her back because it was too late for me to do this. She gave phone number 1-510-962-4561. I hung up with her and did research which shows that Microsoft will never do a "cold call" for technical support and these phone calls are a scam to gain access to sensitive material on your computer or sell you a fake product. I called the number back and a male answered UTH which he stated stood for Urgent Tech Help. I told him I thought I was calling a different company back and he stated they were a private company and asked if I bought any product from their company. I stated no I was just given the number to callback. He asked who I spoke to and I stated Susan Maxwel. He then placed me on hold. Susan then came to the line and when I asked why they are answering UTH she stated they are subcontracted by Microsoft. I told her I knew they were a scam and she proceeded to say she was legit and give me the same story about malware. I had enough of her games at that point and told her it was horrible that she would try to scam me when she could hear my small child crying in the background. She still proceeded to continue with her Microsoft story and I hung up. On the Urgent Tech Help website it is the same phone number that I was given so they are one in the same.
