Complaint 315289 Details

Had a box popping up saying that I would need to X out 2-3 times before I could do anything else. The box stated, "Avast! Setup Fatal Error. c\program files\part-setup-ais-ffffffff.vpx" This box would popup upon starting and at other times.
Uninstalled & installed 2X. Same message.
Called Avast. Guy tried a few things. Said I would need "expert tech support" for $119 lasting 5 days or I could pay $189? for a full year of tech support. I chose the $119 option. They charged my credit card $131.09 currently under dispute. Two days and 3 tech "experts' later - They deleted 3 paid programs; I lost Windows "search" and "help & support" functions; needed to do a hard shutdown because the last tech just left the job with the frozen screen.
I still have the original problem. I called today requesting a refund since the computer has been restored to a "normal" state minus the 3 programs. I figured I would cut my losses. The female told me she would not refund my money even though they did not fix the original problem.
She told me that since techs had worked on it "our policy" is not to refund money. The original "salesman" told me I could get a refund w/in 5 days.
Original stated price $119 with refund w/in 5 days. Charged $131.09.
