I was trying to purchase 6 tickets to SJO (San Jose Costa Rica) and didn't realize I purchased 6 tickets to SJC (San Jose, California).

I called Cheapoair within 5 minutes of making the purchase and realizing my mistake. I was told the fare was absolutely non-refundable, there were no exceptions and I couldn't cancel it.

I'm aware of the DOT's regulation allowing consumers 24 hours to cancel airfares purchased without incurring any penalties. After I mentioned this, I was told I could cancel the ticket but I still had to pay the taxes as a cancellation fee. On this point, the rep would not budge and he would not give me a full refund.

  • Customer was given a full refund of her ticket and no penalties were charged.Cancel fees are implemented by the individual travel sites, and have nothing to do with DOT regulations.
