International boundaries

Used website to search for friend. Was offered a 3 month subscription for $14.95. Used my Paypal acct. to subscribe being led to believe that it was only for three months.This occurred in May of 2013.
Started noticing shortages on my checking acct. and couldn't account for it. Finally realized that Spokeo had continued charging my account every three months since. I though it was a one time charge for only 3 months. Very disappointed.
I had to go into my Paypal account and cancel
my subscription, which was quite a task, because the Spokeo website does not offer a cancellation option directly.

I think this website should be investigated for fraud.

    I'm sorry to hear that you were not aware of our subscription terms and certainly wish to help you resolve the issue. The charge of $14.85 is a renewal for a 3-month subscription. Spokeo is a People Search Engine, providing premium access to members who wish to perform name, phone, email or username look-ups. Since our Premium content is only available through subscription-based plans, accounts will automatically renew if left active. This is to prevent any service interruption. We do try to make this very clear on our payment page by including it in the disclaimer which has to be agreed to before the purchase is processed. In addition, the information is included in the confirmation receipt sent immediately after payment, as well as in our Terms of Use. I do apologize again if this was unclear in any way.
