AHS will not pay to change your water heater.
I have been a customer of American Home Shield for about 3 years.
Recently my 40 gallon gas water heater started leaking. They sent Dodson plumbing from Kernersville, NC to my home in Greensboro, NC. The heater needed to be replaced. After more than a week of not hearing from anyone, I called AHS to inquire what was going on. They gave two options. I was to pay a total out-of-pocket cost of $700.00 to Dodson or accept a pay off of $219.00 for the replacement. I felt deeply cheated and fooled and immediately realized that this whole insurance thing was a scam. They would not reconsider my case and have no appeal process when you disagree with their decision. You cannot find any 40 gallon gas water heater for $219 not adding the cost of installation. Dodson plumbing itself did not appear interested in replacing the heater because they are associated with AHS. They were satisfied with collecting the $60 call fee and would not return my repeated calls to explain the out of pocket costs. I ended up paying someone else for the heater to be replaced and collected the $219. AHS is not interested in replacements. DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT WITH THEM.
