Similar to others, I thought I was being approached by Visa/Mastercard for a job opportunity/investment. Within a week, I had second thoughts and tried to back out but the company insisted that would be the biggest mistake. They kept trying to get me to wait and wait till certain dates - sure till it was too late to do anything. Luckily I was able to avail myself to my local Consumer Protection Act and sent off a letter demanding cancellation of the contract to which they did not respond, so by default, they lost their rights and my payments through mastercard were eventually reversed. It took over 6 months but I got my money back but only because I wrote to them before the 30 day cut off to do so and because I paid by credit card not cheque.
