I saw a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab SR5 TRD listed on Craigslist for $2600. Too good to be true. I sent an email to get and got a response from a person claiming to be LT. Amy Herman stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska. She said she got promoted and she would be in Alaska for 3 years. The vehicle is supposed to be at Hill AFB Utah. She would have the Tacoma shipped to me via the military from Utah and she uses Google Wallet to conduct the transaction. She said all she wanted was $2600 because she did not want the truck getting ruined just sitting for 3 years. When I sent her an email back saying that I wanted to purchase the vehicle she had me send her my shipping info (thank God I didn't send her my home address) and she would send it onto Google Wallet. I got an email with Google Wallet's logo and all of the instructions saying that I was to send the money via MoneyGram. Believe it or not, the request to send the $2600 via MoneyGram is what got me to start looking at this as a scam. While looking for something to say that Google Wallet does use MoneyGram, I found just the opposite. Google Wallet does not use Western Union/MoneyGram and it does not hold money in any escrow account. According to the information that I got from the fake Google Wallet instructions, it said that I would have 7 days to inspect the vehicle and if I decided to not get the vehicle then my money would be refunded via MoneyGram. If I accepted the vehicle then the money would be sent to the seller, Amy Herman. Although I had no contact with Phillip Ferguson, he was listed as the Google Financial Agent which I'm sure he and Amy Herman would split the money. Since I found this out ahead of time, I did not send any money. I did however, send a reply back to Amy Herman letting her know that I did get the email from "Google Wallet" but I also found out that they do not use MoneyGram. I then signed it, You Almost Got Me!

  • I replied to a very similar ad on August 3, 2013.Here is their reply:
    Hi
Thank you for being interested in buying my 2004 Toyota Tundra SR5 Crew Cab. The truck has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, and has not been involved in any accidents. Only 44,5xx miles, the truck comes with a 8 Cylinder, 4.7L. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the engine runs great. Title is clear.
I bought it when I was serving in Randolph AFB, San Antonio but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 years period, so I do not want to let it ruin in my backyard therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer.

The truck is already at our Logistic Department from Randolph AFB, San Antonio crated and ready to go. The shipping will be free for you because I will transport it using the Internal Logistic Department! The Logistic Department will deliver the truck to the nearest Air Force Base from your area and from there I will use a tow-truck to have it delivered at your door. The whole shipping process will take 2-3 days. The financial part will be managed by Google Wallet, which means you will have a 7 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

I would really like to get at least $2,800 so if you are interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full name and shipping address, so I can inform Google Wallet that I have a buyer! I will forward your details to them and then you will receive the invoice. Then you will be able to talk with them directly and ask all you want to know.

Hope to hear from you soon!
    Thanks
