I just needed to move my Microsoft Office software from a defunct computer to a new one. My software version allows it to be installed on up to 3 computers. The program installed fine on the new computer but could not be activated (as required by Microsoft) because it would be the 4th computer. I called Microsoft and was referred to Omnitech. I simply asked them to deactivate the activation on the defunct computer so I could activate it on the new one.
They took control of my computer and insisted on scanning my computer with their special scanner. It reported about 2000 problems which they insisted needed to be "corrected", with a $249.00 price tag. They did bring the price down, but it still was over $100.00. I felt like I was being scammed with what appears to be Ransom-ware.
2000 problems on a new computer???? Three hours wasted.

  • We are an independent Technical support company and have no contractual agreement with Microsoft. A customer cannot reach us via Microsoft. We provide support for various software issues on computers running a Microsoft operating system with the help of our experienced technicians. Generally, our technician runs a free diagnosis on the customer’s computer to uncover the root of the problem as initial troubleshooting step. Some issues are obvious, such a help being needed in setting up a home network, but in others, the diagnosis may uncover registry errors or malicious software. We cannot create any “fake” errors, as we are using a respected 3rd-party diagnostic tool. Later our technician might convey the customer about the scanned results and possible errors on the computer.

In this instance, the complainer hasn’t revealed any details with which we can use to determine if this person is actually our customer in the first place. We also find the allegations that we were working on his new computer contradictory to his allegations that we had been supposedly asked to deactivate his software on a defunct computer. We invite this person to provide some more details like, date of contacting us, the customer ID he was given, or his email address, so that we can investigate further into this particular case. At this situation we are unable to comment anything. We provide quality, affordable technical support, and always try to provide the best services to our customers.
