I order a Tom Tom sat nav from their site and was asked to pay by Ucash voucher by purchasing this at a Pay Point and e-mailing them the voucher number. The incentive was an additional years' guarantee if I paid in this way.

A few days later my ID was stolen and I received a letter from Experien warning me of this, and telling me that I would need to provide extra proof of ID if I wanted to purchse goods etc. buyitplayit then e-mailed me asking for photo ID, scanned household bills etc to prove my ID before they could mail my Tom Tom to me. Foolishly I have e-mailed them some of this information thinking that I need to provide extra proof of ID. They have now e-mailed me to say that the photo of me holding my passport is not high resolution enough, but I am not sending any more ID proof to them, as I now realise how gullible I have been , and that these are probably the very people that are stealing my ID in the first place! I have asked for my money back but hold out very little hope, I am worried that they now have personal information about me that could be used to impersonate me further.

Please warn others not to be taken in by this company,
