On 10/04/11, I did an on-line search for a hotel room for four nights in Panama City Beach FL. The search resulted in a room quoted by BookIt at $69.00 per night for a total charge of $349.30 including taxes and miscellaneous charges. The itemized list of charges totaled $349.30 which did not mention the possibility of other charges. $349.30 was the total charge amount shown on-line before booking. Also, this was the total charge shown on the electronic confirmation received and the amount charged to my Amex card. However, upon printing and reviewing the confirmation, I discovered in the fine print that the hotel would charge a $90.00 cleaning fee and a $40.00 damage waiver fee. , On 10/5/11, I called BookIt to question these fees. I confirmed that the additional charges did apply would be collected by the hotel at check-in. I asked to cancel the reservation and was informed that I would be penalized and charged for two nights, plus Tax and $19.95 or $190.09 total. I informed BookIt that I intend to challenge the charges with American Express.
