My company organised a tour to Maldives in February 2012 and retained a local travel agency Global View Private Limited to book a resort there.We signed the contract and my company remitted the full amount of resort and transfer fees (10500USD) to the Maldivian agency in December 2011.

However, upon arrival, my colleagues were told by the resort that the booking was cancelled because Global View Pvt. Ltd. did not pay for it. The owner and managing director of the travel agency, Ahmed Solih (Maldivian ID No: A055375) asked my company to pay on spot first and he would reimburse all the expenses back to my company later. So the managing director of my company paid USD12032 personally to the resort because of the price change. However, when my colleagues left Maldives, Global View Pvt. Ltd. still did not pay back the money. My company reported the case to the Maldivian Police and Ahmed Solih was summoned to the Police and he paid 500USD in cash to my company, signed an IOU, and promised to pay the rest of USD11532 by 29th February 2012, a promise which was never honoured.

After repeatedly postponing payment deadlines and sending reminders by my company to Ahmed Solih, who kept breaking his words, my company officially lodged a criminal case (fraud) against Ahmed Solih and his company to the Maldivian Police on 22nd July and the case has been transferred to the Prosecutor General’s Office on 5th September, 2012. Now the case is under the review and deliberations of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

My company finally decides to upload the case to scambook.com because Ahmed Solih and Global View Pvt Ltd. have demonstrated no sincere intention to solve the issue and reimburse the money. Even during the review process of the case, my company offered Ahmed Solih new payment dates and the option of repayment by installments. Ahmed Solih still did not pay back any penny of the remaining USD11532.

My company also hopes that the case can serve as a warning to companies and individuals who plan to travel to Maldives of the risks of retaining the specific travel agency.
