When my husband and I were moving from Cleveland, OH to Atlanta, GA we got several quotes for storing our belongings (furniture and merchandise) for 3 months with Moving Solutions, who said they would keep everything safely stored and then load it onto a North American Van Lines truck to send to Atlanta, GA.

North American Van lines picked up our belongings and sent the truck out to six other locations before it got to Atlanta. By the time the truck arrived everything had shifted, furniture was damaged, and merchandise was missing or damaged. We reported this damage to both Moving Solutions and North American Van Lines. On May 28, 2010, North American referenced their Claim 06253-0/Registration 589251. They said that their liability was 60 cents per pound. After paying $7598.90 for this move, we could not afford extra insurance and thought that should more than cover our costs. They said that since the storage and packing were handled by Moving Solutions under a separate contract than our transit contract, Moving solutions should handle the claim. Bottom line, both companies refused to pay us anything. North American sent us a check for $79.95 to cover the cost of 3 minute items. They sent an "inspector" to look at damages who conveniently denied all claims. Paula Wicks the Claims Adjuster from North American Van Lines said that was all they could do for us.

When we contacted Moving Solutions, they claimed that everything was the fault of North American Van Lines and sent us claim forms to fill out. We did and can attach them and after 6 months where we sent them pictures and reports, denied our claim.

When seniors are on a fixed income, $7500 for a move should be more than enough to ensure that things would arrive in good condition. It is appalling that we were treated this way. 60 cents a pound is a joke. And because we packed some of the things ourselves, they refused to cover the damages. What about the missing boxes? To this day, no one will do anything about our claim and we want to make sure that no one ever hires either of these crooked companies.
