In reserving a hotel for a conference I spoke with a hotel person that insured me that an EconoLodge was in walking distance and safe for walking. She said she was concerned about my safety and would not want me to be in danger. Upon arrival to the conference I found that it was not a "safe" walk and in fact the hotel was known for prostitution.
When I canceled my room via email I found out I had been booked through Expedia.
I then called the Sheraton and spoke to a nice man that arranged a non-smoking room at a Holiday Inn Express. When I got to the Holiday Inn Express that night after the first day of the conference the only room they had left was a smoking room. I spent the night and checked out the next morning. When I asked for a receipt she said it was booked through EXPEDIA. I was not at all aware of this and they could not give me a receipt.
So I have a charge on my account for Expedia for $262.12 for the Econo-Lodge and $569.52 for Travres Hotel which I have been told is Expedia.
No one ever told me I was working with Expedia. I called today and they are not willing to give a refund. I wonder how many other people have been taken advantage of.
