The French based company KKO mobile gets a subscription of 4$ or 4.50 pounds sterling or 4.99 euros per week as a result of intenet users clicking on unsolicited pop-up messages. The money is deducted from users ISP accounts as part of the normal billing process. One does not realise that the payment has been taken until until the next bill arrives - and then only if one checks the detail. It is possible to cancel the 'subscription' but no refund.
On-line forums say:
"My four year old son was playing a game on my iphone and apparantly clicked on two pop up banners to"make them go away"
whilst checking my allowances for my phone a £4.50 item appeared. i phoned 3,
who told me it was a subscription for £4.50 A WEEK!!. Just for some games which i can get for free on my iphone. The banner comes up as MyDoo (=KKO mobile) and is a French based company. I called them and got a rude madam who wouldn't give names of her supervisors except for MARK. Nothing else, just Mark, with no position or title, just Mark. i got her at least to cancel the subscription and the address of the company in France.
With a reply from the company saying:
"According to our database you have subscribed our service on 20th of
> August. In order to start the subscription you have to go through two
> billing pages where it clearly states that you are subscribing a
> service that costs 4,5 GBP per week. After activating the service we
> have sent you a text message that confirms that. As the owner of the
> phone you are responsible for your phone and who has access to it so
> therefore we deny the refund.
Users do not receive a text message!
