I am making this report for Mary Smith,my mother-in-law. On May 7, 2012 she received a phone call from Total Magazine Service. She agreed to purchase the TV Guide for 3 years at a total cost of $319.80! She authorized payment on her credit card...so far they have deducted $79.95. There is a remainder of $239.85 left to be paid. I'm assuming they will deduct the remainder as well. She received a bill $239.85 which said this was the balance due and to make checks payable to Total Magazine Service, LLC.
Mary is 87 years old and has recently had a stroke. She did not understand what she was doing when she made this transaction. I tried canceling the order but they would not allow it. They said she had 14 days to cancel and that time has elapsed. They offered to send me the remaining issues if Mary no longer wanted them. I told them we just didn't want them anymore and explained the situation. They said the transaction had been made and there was nothing that could be done. I said keep the $79.95 but don't deduct anymore money and stop the tv guide. I did accuse them of taking advantage of an elderly lady and they hung up on me.
