International boundaries

They had asked for $780.00 shipping and pickup charge for a power wheelchair, plus $70.00 for western union, and had another email supposedly from Pay-pal, saying they were a supervisor, since the customer had already supposedly sent $5850.00 for power chair, s/h, plus the western-union. When I paid the shipping and western union, my $5000.00 would be released. I thought it was suspicious, and my investigation found your site, and I did not give them money. Thanks for bringing the scam to my eyes.

  • I put a Power Wheelchair up for sale on Craigslist Annapolis (Md).
    Here is a response I received from Juliet Bresett:
    Hi,
    I'm interested in buying this unit, and I'd like to know if its still available for sale?like how long have you been using it? is it new?Is it still in good condition? what's your reason for selling it?the reason am asking you all this there are lot of bad one's out there and don't want to be stuck with something in bad condition. Can you provide me more pictures of it? Finally what's your last price?I await to read back from you.

    I answered the questions asked then received this email:

    Hi,
    Thank you very much for the details. So Sad im buying this for myself(im an handicapped and i need it to move myself), for this reason, I will not be able to come and see it and i would have call but due to the nature of my health i can speak loader so am not using phone, but I will take your word that its in good condition. Just to let you know that you will not be responsible for shipping and handling. I have made an arrangement with a shipping company That will come to your location for pick up. Kindly provide me your full name and address, so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the pick up cost for me. Please get back to me as soon as possible.

    This response raised flags for me and I asked:
    Where do you live and/or where are you having the chair delivered to? (city and State will be sufficient)
    What is the name of the shipping company?
    Are you accepting the $xxxx price?
    How do you plan to pay for the chair?

    I then saw your report when I did a Google search for "Juliet Bresett". This happened 8/18/11 and I have not heard back from this person since I began asking my own questions.

  • I had the same person contact me but said she was from Kansas City, MI. I knew it didn't sound right so I searched on Google for "juliet bresett kansas city" and lo and behold this site came up. Thank you for the warning. I am going to post a link to this on craigslist so hopefully it will warn others. I also sent the person an email and copied the information here. Asked her if it "sounded familiar"? and told her, bet you don't contact me back again... Hope no one gets taken by this scammer.

  • Juliet Bresett is not a Juliet, and I found the person's IP address for the email. This person is in Atlanta, GA. Can you tell me if the email matches mine,<[email protected]>?? She responded to me saying something about that company keep it Cargo which does not exist.
    Also, this person does not exist. So, it is someone trying to totally scam wheelchairs and whatever else off craigslist.

  • I also found the possible area which might be from an employee in a state building in Atlanta. I contacted their IP and asked them to investigate this.. I am a computer nerd so this person is messing with the wrong person or just really completely stupid.

    I appreciate that you are tracking this person down. I am of the mind to just warn others and move on. I did flag the response sent to me as suspicious with Craigslist.

    My 2 cents: I took ONE cyber-security class at University, so I'm no expert, but I remember there was a way to break into other's servers and setup a false location IP. Don't ask me how. The class freaked me out so much I covered my eyes and ran away screaming "I don't want to know!!!!" (HeeHee)

    Juliet may appear to be from a state building but with the way gov't is cutting back ($) their IT dep'ts may be short staffed and their security porous. Now that's REALLY scary.

  • And speaking of fraud, this may be a person or group of persons who buy up 'used' durable medical equipment (scamming all the while) and re-sell it as 'new' through a Medicare approved front company. They can then charge Medicare full price and pocket the profits.

  • So glad I found this! My mom was also trying to sell her powerchair through craigslist, and good thing she called me to read this email!! I knew something was up when she said she was too sick to talk over the phone and couldn't speak "loader"...so I googled her email and this came up. What an freak! Nobody messes with my Momma! Also, she's obviously changed her name to Brittany Bateman, so look out for that...thanks!

  • I also posted a power wheelchair for sale on craigslist and received a response from Brittany Bateman, [email protected] identical to the ones listed above from Juliet. Her second email is what alerted me: she wanted my address for her 'shipper' so that he could come to my house. Thanks for this site.

    Unfortunately, sent him info, but then realized it was fishy, so sent him the link to this page to let him know I figured it out and also let him know I sent a report to GMail with both accounts he was using and that I had filed a report with the FTC and reported him to Craigslist. Scumbag!
