This started in the evening with a phone call from a Walter Washington. We had won $255,000 and a new Mercedes Benz, white and we had won this as a random pick of our phone number. We live in Northern Ontario between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie along Highway 17. Mr. Washington had no idea where we were. He admitted calling from Alabama and gace a phone number [205 255 8254] After many exchnges and several calls it was established that we should call the Northern Credit Union in Elliot Lake, ON. and there we would get a receipt from a Madeleine McArthur, 3570 Bayou Road, Orillia, ON. R,R.# 3 L3X6H3.Orillia is approximately 200 + km from us so there was no way we were going there . All this was put over to today. We were out of the house all morning but then just after lunch the calls started again.I boiled down to us going to the nearest Western Union, paying someone {?} $250 and then a truch which supposedly was in our general area would arrive with the car and the money but we had to have that receipt. Now the red flags had been up since the very beginning so we were playing along to see how far we would go before the money angle appeared at that time we end the exchange. Our computer advisers say that most of these calls originate in the Caribbean and are transferred through various exchanges and sometime call centres. We notified the Scam unit of the Ontario Provincial Police.
