I was calling a number at Kaiser Permanente and all of a sudden found myself talking to Assist123. I asked them what their relationship is with Kaiser and was told they are a directory assistance company. Anyway, they wanted to give me a $100 gift certificate to Walmart, Target, etc. for a $3.95 activation fee. I was very leery of all this and couldn't understand why I was talking to them instead of Kaiser. I ended up giving them my work address rather than my home address, told them I didn't have an e-mail address and said I can't pick up the envelope they'll send me until August. That didn't seem to matter; I had up to 5 days to cancel the trial Assist 123 program and couldn't get a straight answer out of them about how I can do that if I only pick up the certificate in August. They insisted it didn't matter when I picked up the certificate, the trial plan could still be cancelled within 5 days, which I don't understand. I ended up giving them a credit card number I never use thinking this could be some sort of protection. They also wanted to entice me with a restaurant.com coupon for $1.95. When I said no, they said they could give me more gifts at no charge at all. Anyway, after I hung up after a long phonecall with them where I constantly said "no, no, no, no" to what they were offering in addition to the $100 gift certificate,I went on line to find scam reports on this company. I immediately called my credit card company to cancel my credit card before they made any charges to my card. I don't know how these things are allowed. It's one thing for them to try to do what they're doing but it's another to think I'm calling Kaiser Permanente and somehow get them instead. This should be outlawed.
