This company is dishonest.

When I booked a parcel with this company online, they asked what the contents of the package was. I stated that it was a mirror.

The website then asked me if I wanted to increase my insurance from the £20 they give you as standard, so I increased it to £100 at a further cost to me on top of the delivery charge.

But when I tried to make a claim, I was sent a form with the restricted or prohibited items -and lo and behold, mirrors were on it.

At no time during booking did the website indicate that a mirror was a restricted item, or even that there WAS a prohibited or restricted list, despite the fact that I stated that this is what I was sending.

But they were very happy to take more money for insurance to cover an item which wasn't actually insurable by this company.

A simple piece of coding in their website could alert the consumer that the item they were sending was prohibited, but they don't want to do this - and that is why they are being dishonest with the consumer.

The mirror I sent was delivered smashed to pieces, but if you're thinking that it wasn't packed properly - not so. I built a wooden crate around all the sides, front and back, packed with bubble-wrap, poly-foam, cardboard and fragile tape. The packing weighed more than the mirror!

The information they supply - or rather, suppress at the point-of-sale is inadequate and inappropriate for the consumer.

Now I have to refund the buyer of my item and I have no mirror.

There is no-one to talk to and no telephone number. Bad practice, bad company.

The list below is the items they prohibit and restrict.

  • You have a valid claim. They should have spotted it was a mirror then they should have not accpeted it, or contacted you prior to. I seem to recall the address they use is a well known 'Rent - A - Letter Box Number company. This rental is legal providing it was not planned in advance to use it to defraud someone or to commit a scam. Any letter send to the Owner of the Mail Box Company and ask him to let you know are they collecting their mail.

  • Hi ButterCups, thanks for your post. Actually, about a week ago, the company decided to play ball and refund me, but only after getting Trading Standards involved. They'd been really unhelpful, even arrogant up to that point but it all worked out in the end. In a way, I was quite looking forward to putting my case to the County Court, but we could all do without companies treating consumers like this in the first place.

Anyway, thanks again for your advice, all the best.

  • David, tally up your losses, time, aggro, fees, expenses, add £500.00 on for distress and aggro, send them the bill, they will offer half out-of-court, and if they don't pay up bang them into Court, if your unemployed the Court fees are free [exempt] I do, and my success rate is 95%. Largest amount was £14k recovery on a case a Solicitor wouldn't touch!

  • Hmm! Sounds like you're the person to talk to 'bout this kinda thing. This one's settled now ButterCup but I really appreciate your input. Next time I'll take a leaf out of your book with a more aggressive stance. Keep fighting :)
