bigdeal.com, the great rip-off site.
I was an avid user of bigdeal.com most of 2010. I bid on a couple items and bought a few lost cost ones around $50. I kept bidding because bigdeal.com had a deal where you could refund your lost bids by purchasing gift cards. I had tallied up a total of $800 in bids, and recovered ~$400 in gift cards. Over time I figured I would buy more gift cards to ultimately get my money back. Earlier this year they stopped providing gift card purchases. The only option to recover your $ (supposedly) was to purchase highly overpriced junk. Then recently bigdeal.com "ceased" operations. As best I can tell they raked in millions of dollars from suckers like me who figured they could get their money back via gift cards... then shutdown to stop people from recovering their money. This is a completely scam and I think someone should start a lawsuit against them to recover this $.
